Zoom

Isn’t it remarkable that it can be hard to remember to stick to your strategy, yet your brain can miraculously come up with the song from an old Mazda commercial?

When you find yourself with a desire to change, change your perspective.

A change of scenery might help. Finding other people with different opinions might help. What if you considered the counter-arguments or an opposing point of view?

Sometimes you need to detach. To remove yourself from the situation. Zoom out and look at this from a satellite. What is visible from far away?

You will only see the big things. The curvature of our planet, day or night, the distinction between land and sea, and whether it’s a clouded or clear sky. You will see the boring basics. They all appear to be binary from far away.

On the other hand, sometimes you need to get up close. Zoom in, and use a magnifying glass to study the tiniest things. The intricate details specific to what you are looking at are those you’ll miss at first glance. You will see all the nuance.

And if the thing you desire to change involves other people, you will have to study them, too.

Situations that seem impossible to solve from one perspective might be very accessible from a different perspective. Nobody said this was easy, but at least the song to the Mazda commercial will help you remember: “zoom, zoom, zoom.”
