Post-traumatic growth

Why do some people manage to eventually thrive after having experienced trauma, and why do others not? What makes people fragile, resilient, or even anti-fragile? How can people who are no superheroes use super compensation?

Supercompensation is the positive adaptive response of your body to a training program. In other words, you will achieve better results by training hard and adjusting your work-to-recovery balance.

The answer to these questions is massively complex. But a little pondering on that answer can be helpful.

It might help to build a little buffer in your life- to create some wiggle room, some breathing space, some extra recovery capacity that you can utilize to overcome trauma or a stressor. One way to do this is by practicing “via negativa” - a Latin phrase borrowed from theology.

Instead of adding things to your life to improve it, concentrate first on subtracting habits, practices, things, and people that burden you.

No” can be a whole sentence. It's a big “N” and a little “o”, period.
